m. Interment will be made in the cemetery of Baynes Church, where Sergeant Garrett was a member. Garrett was inducted into service in 1942. a He went overseas in September, 1943, and was a member of the Army Air Corps, 840th Air Engineer Squadron, 44th Air Service Group. At the close of the war he was transferred to the Occupational Air Force in died of a heart attack on November 28, 1945, at Stocktonbridge, England.

He was a graduate of Anderson High School and was employed by Burlington Mills Corporation prior to Surviving entering serviceition to his ents is one sister, Mrs. B. A. Stanfield of the home. MARTINSVILLE WAR DEAD BEING RETURNED HOME MARTINSVILLE, Aug.

Calvin Martin of Martinsville was killed accidentally Wednesday while engaged in pumping water from the basem*nt of his home near Roanoke with an electric pump. Dr. Russell Smiley, coroner, said death apparently resulted from electric shock. Martin had been dead several hours when found by his wife upon her return home from work. The wage hike applies to approximately 4,000 workers in the tri-city area. The new scale was made effective as of Monday, August 2, 1948. The increase is a flat percentage raise of 8 cent for piece work pay and hourly wages. The new minimum rate will be 94 cents per hour, except for learners.

GRANTS WAGE INCREASE PICKETT COTTON MILLS A A A HIGH POINT, Aug.

at Pickett Cotton Mills, of High Point have been granted a wage increase of 8 per cent, Robert A. Parker, international representative of the Textile Workers Union of America announced today. The increase at the Pickett mills covers 425 workers, Parker stated and was granted after a meeting between union officials and officials of the mill. He said 625 workers at Plants 3 and 4 of the P. H.

Hanes Knitting Company, Winston-Salem, had been granted similar increases. The increases raise the minimum wage scale to 90 cents an hour. Parker said a meeting between representatives of the T. U. and officials of Highland Cotton been arranged for Wednesday of next week, and that would be made to obtain the 8 per cent wage boost for Highland employees.
